Saturday Night MLB Intel

Jacob Misiorowski is the name jumping off the slate tonight, a guy striking out hitters at a ridiculous clip and getting trusted deep into games. Tarik Skubal is on the other side of a similar coin, dealing so well that contact against him has basically dried up. And Munetaka Murakami gives the card a power angle worth chasing in an early matinee out of Cleveland. Three very different props, but each one built on a pitcher or hitter doing exactly what they've been doing lately.

Misiorowski has been nails over his last five outings, running a 2.28 ERA and piling up 30 strikeouts in that stretch. That kind of strikeout rate means fewer balls in play, shorter innings, and a pitcher who isn't getting yanked for pitch-count trouble. The projection sits just a tick over the line at 17.7, but with the way he's missing bats lately, going deep enough to clear 17.5 outs feels like the natural outcome of this form, not a stretch.

STRONG OVER ↑

Murakami's been doing damage over his last 10 games, hitting .263 with 4 home runs and 12 RBI in that span, a stretch that includes real pop. A hit-and-run line set at 0.5 isn't asking much from a hitter who's already shown he can run into a pitch given the recent power numbers. The projection likes him at 0.8, and the recent four-homer flash backs up the idea he's seeing the ball well enough to keep this going in Cleveland.

STRONG UNDER ↓

Skubal's last five starts have been about as clean as a stretch gets, a 2.25 ERA paired with 33 strikeouts. When a pitcher is racking up strikeouts at that pace, hits allowed tend to come down too, since there are simply fewer balls put in play against him. The model has him projected at 4.1 hits allowed against a 4.5 line, and nothing about his recent form suggests Atlanta's lineup is going to be the one to change that trend.

Key Context

Two of the three plays tonight ride dominant recent pitching stretches, Misiorowski and Skubal both sitting in the low 2.00s ERA range with strikeout totals in the low 30s over their last five starts. When arms are performing at that level, both the volume props (outs) and the contact-suppression props (hits allowed) tend to track the same direction. Murakami stands apart as the lone bat-driven play, leaning on a four-homer run over his last 10 games.
