Sunday NFL Intel

Three games into the season, a handful of volume and target hogs are starting to separate from the pack, and this week's board leans hard into that idea. Jonathan Taylor is still getting fed at a rate that outpaces even his monster 2025 workload, Dak Prescott is throwing into a Houston defense that's been far more permissive than anyone probably expected, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba just keeps eating against anything that lines up across from him. The common denominator across this card is usage that hasn't dipped at all early, even in spots where the matchup numbers are still just three games deep.

Taylor is averaging 22 carries a game through three games this season, which the model notes is 2nd in the NFL, and he's taking 80% of Indianapolis's red zone carries on top of it. That's a workload number, not an efficiency number, and it's exactly why this prop works even with his per-carry average down at 3.9 this season compared to 4.9 last season. Last season he averaged 19 carries a game across 17 games, 323 carries in all, so the early returns here are actually a step up in volume, not a step down.

STRONG OVER ↑

Prescott is sitting at 243.3 passing yards a game through three contests this season, a tick under this line, but the matchup is the separator here. Houston has allowed 238.7 passing yards a game through three games this season, 7th-most in the league, a sharp reversal from last season when the Texans ranked 6th-fewest at 183.5 a game. The model also flags Houston allowing 20-plus-yard completions on 12.3% of throws against a league average of 7.6%, and Prescott is averaging 35 attempts a game this season to work with. Last season he threw for 267.8 yards a game over a full year, so the baseline production is there even before accounting for how much softer this Houston secondary has looked so far.

Jaxon Smith-NjigbaLAC at SEASunday, Oct 4, 4:25 PM ET

STRONG OVER ↑

Smith-Njigba is hauling in 75% of his targets this season against a league average of 64%, and he's doing it on serious volume, 12 targets a game and 9 catches a game through three contests. That's actually a jump from last season, when he caught 119 of 163 targets over 17 games for 7 catches a game. The model flags the Chargers as the 7th-softest pass defense by yards per attempt allowed, which lines up with a receiver already running well ahead of this number early in the season.

Key Context

Every matchup number on this card comes with the same caveat: we're three games into the season, and defenses like Washington, Houston and the Chargers are still showing early-sample numbers that can move fast. Washington's run defense looks much tighter early this season than it did last season, Houston's pass defense looks much looser, and the Chargers' secondary is giving up more than it did a year ago. The plays here lean on the players' own established workloads and roles holding up regardless of which version of these defenses shows up Sunday.
