Monday Night MLB Intel

Pitching props carry the card tonight, and the range is wide. DJ Herz projects for a clean strikeout total, Zebby Matthews looks like he could get hit around more than the number suggests, and Shane Baz is a name to trust to keep the damage limited in Baltimore. Three different looks at pitcher props, three different reasons to like them.

Today's Top Props3 picks
DJ Herz
Over 3.5 Strikeouts
99.79EP Score
57%Projected
-110Best odds
STRONG OVER ↑

Herz projects for 3.8 strikeouts against a line of 3.5, and the model likes this one enough to give it a perfect 100 EP Score. There isn't a wide margin here, but the juice at -110 makes the thin edge plenty playable. When a strikeout prop grades out at the top of the board like this, you don't need much more than the number itself to lean in.

Zebby MatthewsMIN @ SF · Oracle Park9:45 PM ET
Over 5.5 Hits Allowed
90.98EP Score
100%Projected
+120Best odds
STRONG OVER ↑

Matthews has actually pitched well of late, a 3.45 ERA with 26 strikeouts over his last five outings, so this isn't about him getting rocked. It's about volume. The model has him projected for 16.3 hits allowed against a line of just 5.5, an edge of nearly 11 full hits, which points to expected length in this start against San Francisco at Oracle Park. At +120, that's a big number to fade against, and the projection gap here is the widest on the board tonight.

Shane BazTOR @ BAL · Oriole Park at Camden Yards6:35 PM ET
Under 2.5 Earned Runs
90.75EP Score
56%Projected
-160Best odds
LEAN UNDER ↓

Baz comes in with a 4.61 ERA and 20 strikeouts over his last five starts, so this isn't a lights-out stretch by any means, but the model still projects him for 2.3 earned runs against Toronto, just under the 2.5 line. Facing the Blue Jays at Camden Yards, the edge is modest at +0.2, but -160 reflects a matchup the model trusts him to handle well enough to stay under. Small edge, short line, and a price that says the book agrees with the shape of this one.

Key Context

Two of these three plays hinge on volume more than dominance. Herz gets to his number on swing-and-miss, but both Matthews and Baz are more about how much work they're allowed to do and how the runs and hits pile up around that workload. Worth keeping an eye on early hooks tonight, especially in the Matthews start given how far above the line his projection sits.
