Friday Night MLB Intel
Three pitching-driven plays headline tonight's card, and the theme is pretty clear: recent form isn't matching the hype. Bryce Miller and Joe Ryan have both scuffled their last five times out, and Salvador Perez is buried in a rough stretch at the plate. When the numbers point down, sometimes the smartest move is just to trust them. Miller's strikeout rate is the headliner here, but don't sleep on what's happening with Perez in Kansas City.

Bryce MillerLAA @ SEA · T-Mobile Park10:10 PM ET Miller's last five starts have produced a 5.09 ERA and 25 strikeouts, which works out to exactly the kind of pace that makes 6.5 a tough number to clear. That's five strikeouts a game on average over that stretch, and he'd need a real step forward tonight against the Angels to get to 7. The projection sits at 5.9, and at -137 this is the kind of number where the market and the recent form are lined up in the same direction.
Joe RyanTEX @ MIN · Target Field8:10 PM ET A 5.92 ERA over his last five outings isn't the version of Joe Ryan anyone wants to roster right now, and that kind of rough patch usually comes with shorter outings, not longer ones. The projection has him right around 15.2 outs, just under the line, against a Rangers lineup that gets first crack at him tonight at Target Field. Getting +108 on a play this close to the number is the appeal, and Ryan's recent workload doesn't suggest he's stretching out deep into games right now.
Salvador PerezCLE @ KC · Kauffman Stadium7:40 PM ET Perez is 6-for-32 over his last 10 games, a .188 stretch with just 1 homer and 3 RBI mixed in. That's not the profile of a guy who's about to produce multiple runs off one swing tonight against Cleveland. The projection has him at 1.1 home run runs, comfortably under this 1.5 line, and at -160 the market agrees this isn't a spot to expect a breakout.
All three plays tonight lean on the same idea, recent underperformance tends to continue in the short term more than people want to admit. Miller and Ryan are both bleeding strikeouts and length compared to their norms, and Perez's cold stretch at the plate lines up with a modest homer-run-rate number. When the data and the recent trend both say "less," it's usually smart to listen.
