Saturday Night MLB Intel
Strikeout unders are running the show tonight, with two starters who've had genuinely rough stretches on the mound facing lines that still feel a tick generous. Bryce Miller heads to Coors Field carrying a bloated ERA, Joe Ryan's swing-and-miss stuff has gone quiet in Anaheim, and over in Tampa, Adley Rutschman's power has cooled off enough to make a homer/RBI under the play. Three very different guys, one common thread: recent form says fade the number in front of you.

Bryce MillerSEA @ COL · Coors Field8:10 PM ET Miller's last five outings have been ugly, a 7.25 ERA with 22 strikeouts in that stretch, and now he's walking into Coors Field where hitters aren't exactly chasing. The whiff totals haven't been there even against lineups with less thump than Colorado's, and the model projects him at 4.2, comfortably under this 4.5 mark. When a pitcher's getting hit like this, the strikeouts tend to come in bursts rather than steady four-plus-K nights, and Coors isn't the place to bet on him suddenly finding it.
Joe RyanMIN @ LAA · Angel Stadium9:38 PM ET Ryan's stuff has taken a real hit lately, an 8.49 ERA with just 18 strikeouts across his last five starts. That's a pitcher who isn't missing bats the way he used to, and asking for 7-plus punchouts against the Angels in Anaheim is a lot to expect from a guy in this kind of funk. The projection sits at 5.9, a full strikeout below the line, and nothing in his recent trend suggests a snap-back start is coming tonight.
Adley RutschmanBOS @ TB · Tropicana Field4:10 PM ET Rutschman is 8-for-38 over his last 10 games, a .211 mark that includes 3 homers and 6 RBI, so the power hasn't completely vanished but the everyday contact has dried up. This line covers homers plus RBI combined, and getting to 2 or more in a single game requires either a homer or a couple of knocks falling his way, neither of which has been a given during this stretch. The model has him projected at 1.2, and at -130 the number still lines up with a hitter who's been more miss than hit lately even with occasional pop mixed in.
Both pitcher props tonight are built on the same idea: recent ERA blowups (7.25 for Miller, 8.49 for Ryan) tend to come with fewer strikeouts, not more, since guys getting hit hard usually aren't missing bats either. Worth remembering when a big strikeout total looks tempting on a guy who's clearly scuffling.
