Prop Builder

A prop builder is a sportsbook feature that lets bettors combine multiple player or game props from the same game into a single ticket with a custom price. Most prop builders are correlated parlays under the hood and carry high vig.
Prop builders are the sportsbook product that lets users construct customized bets inside a single game. The user picks legs (player props, team totals, alternate lines), the book prices the combination, and a single ticket is issued. Books invest heavily in prop builders because they generate hold percentages of 20-35%, far above standard markets.
The book’s pricing model accounts for leg correlation (positive correlation lowers payouts, negative correlation raises them) but always preserves a substantial house margin on top of the correlation math. A perfectly fair price would credit the bettor for the correlation; the actual price gives back only a fraction.
Worked example. A bettor builds a same-game prop combining a QB over passing yards, his lead WR over receiving yards, and the team over its game total. All three are positively correlated (same game script drives all three). The naive parlay price (assuming independence) at -110 per leg would be roughly +595. The book offers +400. The 195-cent gap reflects (a) honest correlation adjustment and (b) embedded hold. Disentangling the two requires either book disclosure (rare) or empirical model backtest.
