Parlay
Also known as: Accumulator, Multi
A parlay is a single bet that combines two or more individual wagers (legs). Every leg must win for the parlay to pay out; one losing leg voids the entire bet. Payouts multiply across legs, producing large potential returns and large built-in house margins.
A parlay multiplies payouts across multiple bets in exchange for requiring every bet to win. Two-leg parlays roughly triple a flat winning bet’s return. Three-leg parlays roughly 7x it. Five-leg parlays push past 25x. The trade-off is that probability multiplies too, so the chance of cashing drops fast.
Independent-leg parlay math: if each leg has a 50% win probability, a three-leg parlay hits 12.5% of the time. The fair payout (no vig) would be 7x; books typically pay around 6x, holding the difference. Across enough parlays, that hold compounds and crushes the bettor.
Worked example. A bettor builds a five-leg parlay where each leg has true 55% probability. True combined probability = 0.55^5 = 5.03%. Fair odds = +1888. The book pays +2400 on a parlay this size, but the implied probability of +2400 is 4.0%, so the bettor needs 5.03% to be the real edge and is conceding about 1% on every leg through compounded juice. The parlay carries roughly 20% hold.
Same-game parlays (SGPs) are worse: legs inside the same game are correlated, but books price them as if some independence exists, generating 25-40% hold in many cases. Some correlations (e.g., QB passing yards over and the team’s total over) are positive and worth pricing in; others (e.g., two opposing running backs both going over) are negatively correlated and a trap.
Elite Picks does not promote parlay-building as a path to EV. The platform’s parlay analysis flags which combinations have positive correlation worth exploiting, and which combinations are simply marketing-driven products with house edges that no model can reliably overcome.
Example
A three-leg parlay at -110 per leg pays approximately +596 (6.96x). A $20 stake returns $139.20 if all three legs win, or $0 if any leg loses.
